Detailed Search Instructions:

The Search Box at the top of this page allows you to search for all books, MUSIC and VIDEO CDs and DVDs, and Art Pints, Greetings Cards, etc. available from  ParnassusOnTheNet.com (GotGoodBooks.com). You can search for any word or phrase in the book catalog. The search is inclusive and searches all words separately. For instance, if you search for the word "cook" you will get all "cook books" and all books with the letters "cook" in the title, description, or author's name. If you search for "cook book" you will get all items with either "cook" or "book" in them, as well as all items that have both words. Use the fewest number of words that will allow you to identify the book or other item.

The "Find In" drop down menu defaults to ALL, this is currently the only choice. In the future, as we grow, the databases will be searched separately so that you can specify books, music, movies, and even categories such as mysteries. Currently you can searching the search form  by any of our categories (listed under the form) and you'll be given a list of the items in that category.

The "Max Hits" button defaults to 80, the current maximum. This means that you will be given the first 80 items matching your search. Usually there will be far fewer items, unless you choose one of our categories as your search word.

Once you have completed your search you can return to the main search page by clicking on the yellow "BOOK" button at the top of your screen.

Condition descriptions:

MINT: Like new, unread. A perfect copy, no defects, crisp. Rarely if ever used.
FINE: Close to MINT, but then we've handled it, so it isn't min is it? No visible defects.
NEAR FINE or ELSE FINE see "VERY GOOD +"
VERY GOOD+ or VG+ Our favorite description for what others might call NEAR FINE or ELSE FINE. It would be fine if it didn't have the flaws we mentioned, but they don't drag it down to Very Good. As in "That would be a fine book if it weren't for that small tear in the dj." or "It's not fine, bit it sure is handsome. " We feel that "better than very good" is more conducive to lowered expectations than "almost fine", we'd rather have you pleasantly surprised at how close a book is to fine  than disappointed at how far away.
VERY GOOD: A copy showing some wear with all flaws (rubbing, tears, etc)
noted. A book you'd be proud to own, but showing some signs of having been read.
GOOD: Your average used and somewhat worn book with all flaws noted.
FAIR: Still a book. Sound unless otherwise noted. Well loved.

Temporal and Genre slippage:  Collectible paperbacks, books which used cheap materials in the first place, and books from the 19th century and earlier are slightly elastic in their descriptions, and more detailed. For instance, a copy of a 1948 Science Fiction Magazine with a perfect cover and no signs of interior wear, but slightly yellowed pages is Fine in our catalog, they don't come any better (unless kept in a vacuum). In the same manner, after describing the offset caused by a lithographic frontispiece as the only flaw in an 18th century book, which looks bright and new in all other respects, that is a Fine book in our catalog.
